Those background things are called Windows Services. If these services are running properly, than you won't face any problem in your computer. These services are like a program or software but in actual it's not a software. What's The Difference Between Service And Program
Any software installed in your computer has an Interface, where you click on it, work on it and do some tasks which are related to that software. But services run in the background and doesn't have any kind of Interface. You can't work on it but they assist you to perform other tasks on computer. Software use those services which are in Windows to give you the required result.
