New pictures of the lava flow taken by two daredevils
These pictures are probably the best pictures of our famous lava flow I have seen.  Two daredevils went into the almost boiling water in the area where the lava flows into the ocean.  This lava flow has been going on continuously since mid 80's when it took out the tropical town of Kalapana and since then has taken out more homes and sub-divisions.  Our own lava photographer Leigh Hilbert has monitored all that and has videos posted on his web site as the lava flow torches homes and trees.  The flow is very slow moving.
People come here from all over the globe to see the spectacle of nature which goes on nightly.  However, to see it, requires some hiking over lava bolders which can be crumbly and one could sprain an ankle or fall.  The county has roped off an area so daring photographers do not get too close to the flow where some lava areas have cooled on top but still red hot lava flows underneath and some of these ledges have fallen off into the ocean. 
 
The county is protecting the people from getting into trouble at the flow sites and also themselves from unnecessary law suits, should somebody get in trouble.
 
I have taken many pictures myself and even made several paintings of it.   Lately we have had sperodic night rains and one can hike out to the flow site and suddenly be totally dowsed by the rain.  The hike out to the actual flow site can take an hour or more depending how many miles it is.  The flow does not always come down at the same location and can change where one cannot hike out to and then it can only be seen by helicopter.
