ISLAMIC EDUCATION - 10 TO 13 & aUTHORITY OF SUNNAH The AUTHORITY of SUNNAH:  By Justice Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani:  Page 11 to 12 Chapter 1 – SUNNAH: THE SECOND SOURCE OF ISLAMIC LAW. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- سورة النساء 4 80 مَّنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللّهَ وَمَن تَوَلَّى فَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا 4: 80- Many-yuti-'ir-Rasuulafa-qad 'ataa-'allaah: wa man-ta-wallaa famaaa 'arsal-naaka 'alay-him hafiizaa 80. He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad ), has indeed obeyed Allâh, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad ) as a watcher over them. (from previous mail): The obedience of the Messenger It is in this background that the Holy Qur'an insists repeatedly on 'the obedience of the Prophet'(pbuh), so much so that it is mentioned side by side, with the obedience of Allah s.w.t,:   سورة آل عمران 3 32 قُلْ أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْكَافِرِينَ Say, 'Obey Allah and the Messenger but if they turn their back – Allah loves not the disbelievers', (oo3: 32) سورة آل عمران 3 132 وَأَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ And obey Allah and the Messenger so that you may be blessed (003: 132) سورة النساء 4 59 يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ   O those who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority (according to Islamic Shari'ah) among you. (004: 59) سورة المائدة 5 92 وَأَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَاحْذَرُواْ And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware (005: 92) سورة الأنفال 8 1 فَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَأَصْلِحُواْ ذَاتَ بِيْنِكُمْ وَأَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ So fear Allah and set things right between you and obey – Allah and His Messenger if you are believers (008:001) سورة الأنفال 8 20 يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلاَ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ O those who believe, obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn away from him, while you are listening (008: 20) سورة الأنفال 8 46 وَأَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلاَ تَنَازَعُواْ فَتَفْشَلُواْ And obey Allah and His Messenger and do not quarrel with each, and so lose heart (008: 46) To be contd. This Mail: سورة النور 24 54 قُلْ أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ فَإِن تَوَلَّوا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُم مَّا حُمِّلْتُمْ وَإِن تُطِيعُوهُ تَهْتَدُوا وَمَا عَلَى الرَّسُولِ إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ   24: 54 Say. 'Obey Allah and obey the Messenger; then, if you turn away, upon him rests what is laid on h              Him, and upon you rest what is laid upon you. If you obey him, you will be guided. سورة محمد 47 33 يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ 47: 33- O those who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not make your deeds vain.   سورة المجادلة 58 13 أَأَشْفَقْتُمْ أَن تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَاتٍ فَإِذْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا وَتَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ   58:13. Are you afraid of spending in charity before your private consultation (with him)? If then you do it not, and Allâh has forgiven you, then (at least) perform As-Salât (Iqâmat­as­Salât) and give Zakât and obey Allâh (i.e. do all what Allâh and His Prophet order you to do). And Allâh is All-Aware of what you do. سورة التغابن 64 12 وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ فَإِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَى رَسُولِنَا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ       64:12- And obey Allah and obey the Messenger, but if you turn your backs, Our Messenger has only to deliver the manifest message. In these verses 'the obedience of the Messenger' has been ordered as an obligatory command. There are other verses in which the results of the 'obedience of Messenger' have been described. Here again the 'obedience of the Messenger' has been combined with 'the obedience of Allah': سورة النساء 4 13 وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, Allah shall admit him in the Gardens underneath which rivers flow. (4:13) The same words have been repeated in 48:17 also. سورة النساء 4 69 وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاء وَالصَّالِحِينَ وَحَسُنَ أُولَـئِكَ رَفِيقًا     4:69 (69. And whoso obeys Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad ), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allâh has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqûn (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As­Siddiq ), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!) And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, - they are in the company of those whom Allah has blessed (4:69) سورة النور 24 51 إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن يَقُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَأُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ سورة النور 24 52 وَمَن يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَخْشَ اللَّهَ وَيَتَّقْهِ فَأُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ       All that the believers say, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger that he may judge between them, is that they say: 'We hear, and we obey: 'It is these who are successful. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger and fears Allah and has awe of Him – it is these who are the winners (24: 51-52) سورة الأحزاب 33 71 يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَن يُطِعْ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا (33:71) 71.  He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger () he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and made to enter Paradise). And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he has won a great success (33:71) To be contd. سورة هود 11 88   وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلاَّ بِاللّهِ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ WA MAA TWW-FIIQIII 'ILLAA BILLAAH.
