Islam uplifts women

Islam uplifted women from the abyss of ignominy

Daughters are a mercy, a wife completes the faith and paradise lies under the feet of the mother

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) showered divine grace and benevolence on one and all.  He not only granted each and every person their rights but also gave them the solutions to their problems.

The western world is harping about women's rights now, in this century, whereas the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) granted women the rights due to them when the right to live itself was doubtful for them.  Daughters would be considered unlucky and a source of shame.  Dislike and hate for them was such that the father himself would bury his daughter alive.  These kinds of abuse were not only in Arabia, even in the subcontinent women had to face a lot of abuse.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gave women such a high status that the world can only gasp with astonishment.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia and Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Jahanuma, which is held under the aegis of AHIRC.

The revered Mufti said that Islam has given educational, economic, social and political all kinds of rights to women.  Women have not been ignored in any sphere of worldly or religious life.  Almighty Allah does not discriminate against them in matters of reward or spiritual status.  The reward which men get for their good deeds, the same reward is given to women on the performance of those deeds.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) not only gave girls the right to live, but even declared that daughters are a source of mercy for the whole household.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Whenever any girl is born in a household, Almighty Allah sends a group of angels.  Those angels cover the girl with their wings, caress her head with their radiant hands and declare:  A weak one who has come from a weak one!  The one who takes care of her will be helped until the Day of Judgment.

There is a Hadith in Jame' Tirmidhi:  The person who is tested through his girls in some way and he is patient on it, then those girls become a shield against hell for him on the Day of Judgment.

On the occasion of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), when Thuwayba (May Allah be well pleased with her) by Abu Lahab, this was in fact a blessing of the arrival of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), which was received first by a woman.  A woman who was a slave was given freedom due to the arrival of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

Nowadays, it is propagandized that Islam neglects women with regard to education.  This is nothing but misinformation and/or ignorance. When the first divine revelation came, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) related the verses of the Holy Quran to Hadhrat Khadija (May Allah be well pleased with her).  Thus, the first Muslim to have the honor of listening to the Holy Quran was a woman.

The revered Mufti said that the ladies of that blessed era eagerly requested the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that a day be fixed for their education and instruction.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) accepted their request and fixed a day for them alone.  In this manner, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) instituted education for women.

Islam has granted women dignity and majesty in every form of theirs.  If she is a daughter, she is a source of divine mercy.  If she is a wife, she is a means of perfecting the faith.  If she is a mother, paradise lies under her feet.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has granted special mercy to women.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

Three things have been made dear to Me from your world:  Fragrance, women and the coolness of My eyes has been placed in Salaat. (Sunan Nasai, Hadith No. 3956)

The revered Mufti said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has exhorted men to treat the fairer sex with respect and gentleness.  There is no difference between a Muslim or non-Muslim woman in this.  A woman regardless of her religion ought to be respected by virtue of being a woman.  Islam does not condone misbehaving with a woman or troubling her in any way.

Islam grants equal economic rights to women as well.  She can own any permissible thing.  Within the guidelines of the Shariah, she can handle her own dealings as well.

Politically also, a woman has equal rights.  She has the right to give her vote and voice her opinion.  Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) changed his opinion when a lady voiced an objection to it.
