[Yaadein_Meri] Imam - in The Quran

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

"IMAM" IN THE QURAN

WILL ALL MUSLIMS BE RAISED (RESURRECTED) WITH THEIR IMAMS OR PIRS AT DAY OF JUDGMENT?

The reply is  NO -

You will be surprised to read this reply, because many Muslim experts have translated the word "IMAM" in the verse NO: 71 of the Chapter 17 of the Holy Qur'an as LEADER or a pious muslim (Pir) leading a group of Muslims. Many of the Muslims experts have also opined on this Ayaat that the LEADER means Prophet (pbuh) or heavenly book such as Quran, bible (Injil), Taurat and Zabur.

Please read the following verse NO: 71 of the Chapter - 17 in the Holy Quran and its translation from one of the Muslim experts.

(And remember) the Day when We shall call together all human

beings with their (respective) Imâm [their Prophets, on their

records of good and bad deeds, or their Holy Books like the Qur'an,

the Taurât (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel the readers whom

the people followed in this world). So whosoever is given his record

in his right hand, such will read their records, and they will not

be dealt with unjustly in the least. (The Holy Qur'an Chpter : 17 - Ayat: 71)

Whether Prophet can be "Imam" ?

In respect of our beloved prophet Muhammad (pbuh), please refer to the following translation and commentary on the Ayat NO: 9 of Sura NO: 46 (Al Ahqaf)

46/9-       Say: "I am no bringer of new-fangled doctrine among the messengers (Rasools), nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I follow only that which is revealed to me by inspiration; I am only a Warner open and clear (نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ )  ."

Also refer to the Hadith NO: 1198 - Bukhari  (Kitab Al Wasāya) whereby our beloved prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had said to his daughters that he would not be able to assist them on the day of judgment, so they (his daughters) must perform their duty as instructed by Allah.

The above quotation from the Holy Quran and Hadiths prove that "Imam" word does not refer to Prophet.

Whether Heavenly Book can be "Imam" ?

If every human being will be raised with their religious book, then what will happen to those human being to whose prophet no heavenly book was revealed. Therefore, the word "Imam" cannot to be heavenly Book.

"Imam" means Book Of Deed

Considering the above matter of facts, I am inclined to believe that Shaikh Mohammed Ali Al Sabuni correctly writes his commentary (tafseer) in "Tafseer Al Waadeh Al Muyasser" on the page no: 705 that "Imam" in the above verse of the Holy Qur'an mean Book of Deeds (Kitabul A'amaal).

Shaikh Mohammed Ali Al Sabuni's commentary (Tafseer) is correct. Let us examine his commentary and let us discuss whether the word "Imam" means BOOK Of DEED.

I was authorised by Islamic Propagation Centre International, Durban to change Archaic words into simple English words in the Qur'an translation by Abdulla Yusuf Ali and also to redesign index, cover page etc. Alhamdolil-lah, finally Govt of Dubai, Islamic Affairs and charitable activities and Research Department had approved the editing and the Holy Qur'an has been printed. During this job of about 18 months, I had to go through the Holy Qura'n a number of times and therefore, with my little knowledge of Arabic, I have not only understood but also felt Allah's heavenly style in the Holy Qur'an to convey His message to human being.

I have noticed that Allah has repeated his message on every subject at least two times in the Holy Qur'an. First time, as a straight clear message and next time may be the same message is repeated or the message is conveyed indirectly by or together with other relative messages. If "Imam" word definitely refers to LEADER or refers to heavenly books, then, such or similar message would have been definitely repeated or would have been indicated indirectly in the Qur'an at least two times to confirm meaning of the word "Imam" to be LEADER or heavenly books.

The word "Imam" as a meaning of LEADER or heavenly book is not repeated anywhere in the Holy Qur'an, but the word "Imam" is referred and repeated to the meaning as - "Book Of Deed".

Now refer to the evidences from the Holy Qur'an. The verse (Ayat) NO: 12 of the Chapter - 36 (Sura Yasin) of the Holy Qur'an.

Verily, We give life to the dead, and We record that which they

send before (them), and their traces and all things We have

recorded with numbers (as a record) in  Clear Book.

Here, "Imam" has a clear and undisputed meaning as "Book". In order to certify the meaning of "Imam" in the Sura - 17, Allah has given the evidence in Verse NO: 12 of the Chapter- 36 in the Holy Qur'an to prove that "Imam" means Book of Deed.

Now come to the referral evidences given by Allah in The Holy Qur'an.

 Chapter-18(Kahaf)

18/49 - (at the day of judgment/Qiyamat) the book (of deeds) will be placed (before you); and you will see the sinful in great terror because of what is (recorded) therein; they will say, "Ah! Woe to us! What a book is this! It leaves out nothing small or big, but takes account thereof!" They will find all that they did, placed before them: and no one will be treated by Allah with injustice.

Chapter -17 (Isra  -or- Bani Israel)

13-    And We have fastened every man's deeds to his neck, and on the Day of Resurrection (Qiyamat), We shall bring out for him a book (book of A'amaal) which he will find wide open.

14-    (It will be said to him): "Read your book (book of A'amaal). You yourself are sufficient as a reckoner (knower) against you this Day (Day of Qiyamat)."

Chapter- 69 (Al Hāqqah)

18   -  That Day (Qiyamat) shall you be brought to Judgement: not an act of yours (Deed) that you hide will be hidden.

19 -   Then he that will be given his Record (Book of Deed) in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read you my Record!

25  -   And he that will be given his Record (Book of Deed) in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record (Book of Deed) had not been given to me!

26 -   And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! (Book of Deed)

Chapter-84   ( Al Inshiqāq)

At the day of judgement (Qiyamat) -

7  -  Then he who is given his Record(Book of Deed) in his right hand

10 - But he who is given his Record (Book of Deed) behind his back

Al Infitar - 82/19

(It will be) the Day (Qiyamat) when no soul (no one) shall have power (to do) aught (anything whatever) for another: the whole (sole) Command, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah.

Al Naba 78/29

All things we have preserved on Record (Book of Deed)

-------------

So, the above are the evidences that every human being will be raised (resurrected) with his Book of Deed at the day of Judgment.

May  Allah  guide  all of us.
